For the 2026–2027 test year: written for the 8006 as it runs from September 1, 2026, in three separately timed sections of 40, 30, and 30 minutes.
The Praxis Elementary Education Fundamentals: Teaching Reading test (8006) gives you 80 selected-response questions in 100 minutes: about 32 on Foundational Literacy Skills, 24 on Fluency and Vocabulary, and 24 on Comprehension and Written Expression, each category on its own clock. Roughly 10 to 15 percent of the questions set the reading content inside a teaching task: reading a student's oral reading record, sorting a spelling sample, choosing the next lesson, or giving feedback on a piece of writing. The 8006 replaces the Teaching Reading test 7002. This study guide covers the 8006 and no other test.
Each chapter follows the test's own topic list. Phonological and phonemic awareness, print concepts, letter knowledge, phonics and decoding, spelling development, fluency, vocabulary, grammar and usage, literary and informational comprehension, and writing are explained in plain language, with the sounds written the way the test writes them. Most chapters include a Classroom Connection and a Commonly Confused section, and every content chapter ends with twelve practice questions.
