For the 2026–2027 test year: the Praxis 5002 Reading and Language Arts subtest, taught chapter by chapter and practiced on one 90-minute clock.

The Praxis Elementary Education: Reading and Language Arts subtest (5002) asks about 80 selected-response questions in 90 minutes: 38 on Reading and 42 on Writing, Speaking, and Listening. You can sit it on its own for $64, or as one quarter of the 5001, and either way you are working against one clock and one passing score. This book is written for the person who needs that single subtest and wants to see every kind of question before test day.

Each chapter follows the ETS topic list. Phonological awareness, phonics, and fluency; key ideas, structure, point of view, and text complexity in literature and informational text; types of writing, revision, student work samples, digital tools, and research; grammar, usage, figurative language, and the three tiers of vocabulary; collaboration, listening, and oral presentations. Every content chapter ends with 12 practice questions.

  • A bridge chapter for candidates whose state is moving to the newer 8002 test
  • Study plans for four, eight, and twelve weeks, plus a last-week and day-before plan
  • Review tools: a quick reference, commonly confused terms, a glossary, a topic coverage map, an answer key at a glance, a score tracker, and a wrong-answer log

Checked at the source. Question count, timing, fee, category weights, scoring scale, and the passing scores each state set were read from the Praxis Study Companion, the ETS test page, the published score table, and the Praxis Tests Information Bulletin in October 2026. ETS has set August 2028 as the target date to retire the 5002 along with the 5001, and each state picks its own last date, so confirm that your state still accepts it before you register.
